How does the Berkey® Natural Water Purifier work?

To use the Berkey® Water Purifier, you simply pour water into the upper chamber. Gravity draws this water through the microporous purification elements where contaminates are separated out from the purified water which collects into the lower chamber. Once the purified water is in the lower chamber, you can pour yourself a glass of clean, fresh and purified water through the spigot.

Occasionally, the remaining water in the upper chamber should be emptied to remove concentrated contaminants.

Then periodically, the elements need to be cleaned.  How often, depends upon the contamination level of the raw water you pour into the upper chamber. All you need to do is to remove the elements, then brush the elements with a clean wash pad, under running water. Then you simply replace the elements and continue to use the Berkey® Water Purifier as before.
